No ordinary website form can promise perfect anonymity. Your network, device, browser, files and writing may reveal information about you.
Choose the right channel
- For routine tips with low personal risk, use the secure source centre.
- For high-risk disclosures, do not use a work device or work network. Contact the newsroom first through a safer channel you trust.
- JulyTimes should deploy a separately maintained SecureDrop instance before advertising Tor-based anonymity. This code does not make that claim.
Before uploading a file
- Remove metadata and hidden revision history where safe.
- Do not alter an original if authenticity may matter; keep a safe copy.
- Consider whether filenames, access logs or document watermarks identify you.
What the current form does
Submission content is encrypted by the application and attachments are placed on a private storage disk. Authorised newsroom staff can still access submissions. Server and infrastructure configuration must also be hardened and audited.
