Editorial charter
JulyTimes serves the public interest through independent, evidence-led reporting. Editorial decisions must not be controlled by advertisers, donors, political actors, subjects of coverage or personal interests. News, analysis, opinion, sponsored material and AI-assisted work must be clearly distinguished.
- Verify material proportionately to the seriousness of the allegation.
- Seek meaningful right of reply before publishing adverse findings.
- Protect confidential sources and minimize collection of identifying data.
- Declare conflicts and recuse staff when independence is reasonably questioned.
- Correct material errors promptly, visibly and without silently rewriting history.
- Never pay for allegations; only pre-authorized, documented reporting expenses may be reimbursed.
Corrections and right of reply
Anyone may identify a factual error, request a correction, or submit a response. The newsroom records the request, evidence, reviewer, decision, reasons and any published change. A correction should state what was wrong, what is correct and when the change was made.
Source protection
Access to confidential submissions is limited to superadministrators and specifically allowlisted staff using two-factor authentication. Access, download and recovery actions are audited. Editors should collect the least identifying information necessary and must not promise anonymity without assessing legal, digital and physical risk.
Artificial intelligence
AI may assist research, transcription, translation, analysis and drafting, but it cannot independently approve evidence, contact vulnerable sources, make legal judgments or publish. A named human editor remains responsible.
